Meet Our Teaching Staff

Mr Brennan -  Headteacher - Designated Safeguarding Lead

I have been lucky enough to be Headteacher of our wonderful school since 2009. I have been teaching since 1985 and I have worked in 7 schools altogether - so far! I love spending my days with our pupils and seeing them grow into confident, happy people.  My wife and I have two children (Daniel   & Anna) who are in their early 20's. Anna is a Teacher and Daniel is a Hotel Manager in France. In my spare time I like to go to the gym (honestly!!) and spend time in the garden. I am a member of a Choir called Chordiality. It will probably come as no surprise that I also like my holidays abroad!

Mr Tomkinson - Deputy Headteacher - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead - Y4 Teacher

I am the Deputy Headteacher at St Mary’s and I also teach in Year 4 alongside Mrs Gordon. I have been at St Mary’s for 12 years and have taught in virtually every year group. I was born in Manchester and lived there most of my life until I moved to Halifax. I went to University in Liverpool and spent three happy years there studying History. Outside of school, I like spending time with my family and enjoy playing and watching various sports. I am an avid Everton fan in football and Salford Red Devils fan in Rugby League. I also love going to the cinema and my favourite film is Star Wars.

Mrs Smith - FS & KS1 Leader - Foundation

When I was a student at Leeds Trinity University studying Primary Education I was luckyenough to have my 3rd & 4thyar placements at St Mary's Catholic Primary School and I have never left since!  Last year I saw the first class move on to high school which was a very special time for me. I really enjoy working in the Foundation Stage and being part of the special year when children become members of our school community.

Miss King - Foundation

From a young age I knew I was destined to be a teacher, and I chose York St John University to complete my teaching degree where I specialised in Early Years. I love helping children to grow in confidence and to find their voice as individuals.

Mrs Dyson - SEN & Disability Leader -Y1/2D

I graduated from York St John university and I have been teaching at St. Mary's for 21 years. I love working with children in Key Stage 1 and seeing them grow and progress into confident learners. I really enjoy teaching PE and taking children to sports competitions against other schools- whether we win or lose!

Mr Morley - Y1/2M

From a young age I always wanted to become a teacher, I was delighted when I found out I had been accepted onto a teacher training course specialising in early years at Leeds Trinity University. I graduated in July 2015. It was whilst I was on my teaching practise that I underwent a placement at St Mary's in 2012. Since graduating I went on to do supply teaching in a variety of schools in Calderdale and when I saw a job opportunity at St Mary's the place  where I had started my teaching carer I jumped at the chance.

Miss Harrington -Y2H

I trained to be a teacher in Scarborough, where I studied Primary teaching with Mathematics for 3 years. I was very lucky as I was able to live by the seaside during this time. After University, I moved to West Yorkshire to be nearer to my family.I love music and spend a lot of my free time going to gigs and concerts with my family and friends. My partner also teaches music in a secondary school – so music is a big part of our lives! My hobbies include playing the piano, reading and swimming. My favourite book is Harry Potter and one day I would love to write a children’s book of my own.

Mrs Land - Y3/4L

I graduated from the University of Hull in 2007 and was lucky enough to begin teaching at St Mary’s straight away. As a former pupil, it has always held special memories for me and I was delighted at being given the opportunity to be part of the teaching staff. The majority of my teaching experience has been in Year 3 and 4 and it is a pleasure to watch the children I first meet as 7 or 8 year olds mature and develop throughout their time in Key Stage 2. One of the most significant aspects of my job is supporting the children as they prepare to receive the sacraments of Confession and Communion in year 3. It is a privilege to be part of their journey of faith at such a special and memorable time.

Mrs Rollinson - Y3/4R

After spending the early part of my working life being employed in the Personnel and Health sectors I took a P.G.C.E. in 1997 and qualified as a primary teacher, since which time I have been working in education in both Kirklees and Calderdale.I have thoroughly enjoyed becoming part of the St. Mary’s family, being a full-time class teacher again and having the privilege of watching the children developing their many and varied talents.

Mrs Gordon - Y4TG

I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2004 with a BA (Hons) degree in Sociology. After working in the private sector for a short time I attended Bradford college to attain qualified teacher status.

I started working at St Mary’s in 2006 and since then I have taught in both Key Stages and I’ve held a range of responsibilities, these include; Gifted and Talented and English coordinator, Key Stage 1 leader and assistant head teacher. These experiences have given me a real awareness of where our children are when they start school, the learning experiences they have with us and what they go onto achieve.

Whilst I enjoy teaching all subjects, English has to be my favourite! I love to read and enjoy sharing my love of books and all things literature with the children I teach. So if anyone has a good book recommendation please let me know!

It has and continues to be an honour to teach at St Marys! I consider it a real privilege to see so many wonderful students pass through our doors and then see them move onto the next stage in their lives.

I have taught across all primary phases (Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2). I have also worked as a Link Tutor for Leeds Beckett University.

My subject specialism is in theteaching of MFL.I hope to enthuse and engage children in the learning of languages and cultures in the way I too developed a passion for languages at an early age.
